"It is always better to give than to receive." A Note from the Founder
The Founder
Ken Deever, Jr. started roofing in the 1970s and established Deever
Roofing in 1981. For more than a decade he has been giving back to the
community by making Christmas a reality for school kids in a low-income
neighborhood of Des Moines, Iowa.
In 2005 Ken took what had been a personal labor of love and established The Rooftop Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving children in Des Moines, Iowa a chance to experience a Christmas that otherwise would not have been possible.
The Young Women's Resource Center asked Ken to be Santa for Christmas 2006.
How it Works
During the Christmas season, students of Moulton Elementary are rewarded for their good
behavior and hard work by being asked to be part of Christmas For Kids
With A Wish. Once they have permission to participate, these kids are
treated to a day full of miracles! See full details in this Note from the Founder.
Each year, Santa and his helpers:
- Take the children to eat at a nearby restaurant
- Present the kids with new holiday t-shirts
- Take the children shopping to purchase gifts for their families (it's better to give than receive)
- Help the children wrap the gifts
- Present the kids with their own gifts
